Student receives basketball scholarship

A Life Skills Center of Cleveland student will continue her basketball career at Mercyhurst College in Pennsylvania.

Viola Parish, a 5'7" guard/forward, averaged 19 points, four assists and five rebounds for Martin Luther King High School in 2005-2006 after missing her junior season at Cleveland Glenville High School after she became pregnant.

After the season, Parish was offered a scholarship to Mercyhurst play basketball and study sports management and entered Life Skills.

"I've been here for six months," she said. "I want to get all my credits and finish school early."

She said she likes the shorter day and the help of teachers.

Parish will receive her diploma in December.

After Mercyhurst, Parish said she wants to play basketball for a four-year college then play professionally overseas.
