Wil Harris of the Warren Urban Minority Alcohol and Drug Abuse Outreach Program talks Nov. 8 to Life Skills Center of Trumbull County students as part of the school's UPSHOTS program, which helps counsel students on addictions and other tough issues.UPSHOTS stands for Unique Place (where) Students Have Opportunity (to) Talk Sincerely.
Students help run the group. Topics discussed during the ten-week session include:
* Drug abuse - including marijuana, cannibus, coricidin, opiates, stimulants, ecstasy, hallucinogens and club drugs.
* Alcohol abuse
* Party survival skills, date rape prevention and awareness of sexually-transmitted diseases.
* Suicide prevention, self-mutilation and mental health
* Death and grieving the loss of a loved one
* Goal setting and identification of community resources
